At the age of 26, Hector Chacon made history by becoming the youngest person ever elected to the MUSD Board of Education. He has dedicated the past 20 years of his life to public education, and is one of the longest sitting board members serving the District with honesty and integrity.
As a Board Member, he works with his fellow colleagues and District staff to oversee a complex budget of $278 million dollars, and is responsible for managing 3,000 employees and the education of 55,000 Transitional-Kindergarten through Adult Education students at more than 30 schools.
Under Hector's leadership, no MUSD employee has been laid off or encountered any furloughs during these challenging economic times. His innovative budgeting policy has established a strong foundation to secure the educational future of our children. Presently, MUSD continues to provide after-school programs, summer school, busing, and many other vital student and community services.
In addition, Hector has also advocated for the passage of a $92 million general obligation bond measure in 1998 and a $98 million bond measure in 2004 to fund the renovation and construction of Montebello Unified facilities. The funding has been vital in ensuring that students have access to quality, comfortable learning environments and up-to-date technology.
Hector's leadership style is to be a transparent consensus team builder, which he has consistently shown during his tenure as board president over the last two years, and a board member over the last 20 years. He has dedicated his life to working with his colleagues to help the children and adults of Montebello Unified excel and attain their goals within college and career.
Hector is also a devoted husband to Suzie Chacon and a loving father to his daughter Suzana Chacon, who attends school in the Montebello Unified School District.
